Voodoo News: Win Tickets, Friday's Playlist, Beats Antique, and Foals

My Spilt Milk's giving away a pair of LOA tickets, and we have the first of three playlists previewing each day at Voodoo.

The Voodoo Music and Arts Experience returns to City Park October 28-30, and My Spilt Milk has a pair of LOA weekend passes to give away. Register here for a chance to win. The contest closes Monday, October 24 at noon Central.

As we posted earlier this week, daily schedules are up now. Producers Sig Greenbaum and Don Kelley recently talked to Chelsea Brasted at Nola.com about the new schedule philosophy, leaving smaller stages dark while the Altar Stage as a way of dealing with the soundbleed that has been an issue since City Park moved Voodoo to its Festival Grounds.

"We know it'll be better for the musicians," Greenbaum said. "We had a problem where musicians were complaining that it was barreling onto their stage. They were a quieter act and they were getting run over."

Greenbaum and Kelley also talk about improved toilet facilities and better drainage to try to avoid the swampy conditions that forced Voodoo to cancel its last day last year.

In other Voodoo news:

Rather than roll out an intimidating, hours-long playlist of artists playing Voodoo this year, this year we've made three day-specific Spotify playlists to help you get a sense of who sounds like what. Here is Friday's playlist.

Beats Antique will play Sunday at 6:30 p.m. on the Pepsi Stage, and today, their new album Shadowbox drops. Here's a track from it, "Let it All Go," recorded with the Preservation Hall Jazz Band. Since Preservation Hall will play the Altar Stage Sunday at 1:30, there's a good chance that the two groups will collaborate at some point.

Finally, Foals will play Voodoo's Altar Stage Friday at 5:30, and they recently appeared on AT&T Live on DirectTV's Audience Network. Here they are performing "Mountain at My Gates."
