Deadmau5 dropped a new old mixtape late last week, and Run the Jewels talked about Bernie and giving away their music with Trevor Noah.

Buku is a week away, and while we were enjoying Carnival, a number of Buku artists made news. Deadmau5 will perform on The Power Plant Stage at 9:40 p.m. Saturday night, and on Friday last week, he released the mixtape stuff i used to do, which will be downloadable for free through Thursday night.

The mixtape includes 13 of the 16 songs that will be available for sale Friday, and as the title implies, the tracks date back as far as 1998. They’re more than just Deadmau5 emptying his hard drives, but the pieces reveal how quickly and how drastically the sound of electronic dance music has changed. You can hear Daft Punk, Aphex Twin, and Chemical Brothers, and that sounds almost antique today. Because it spans a decade—until 2007—stuff i used to do is more sonically varied than many electronic albums, but the interesting question is whether electronic audiences have any interest in an artist’s history, or if it’s the now sound to such a degree that history is not only irrelevant but a drag on the present and future.

In other Buku news, Run the Jewels will perform Saturday at 8 p.m. on The Power Plant stage, and on Fat Tuesday Killer Mike and El-P appeared on The Daily Show. Here’s the extended appearance, with footage that didn't appear on the show.
