Jazz Fest News: Trombone Shorty's at the Fest, the Saenger, Generations Hall and in a Children's Book

Trombone Shorty will be very busy during festival season.

Trombone Shorty and Orleans Avenue will close the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival presented by Shell Sunday, May 3 at 5:45 p.m. on the Acura Stage, following Lenny Kravitz. That show will end a busy week for Shorty, one that will also include headlining “Trombone Shorty’s Treme Threauxdown” at the Saenger on Saturday, April 25 and Shorty Fest at Generations Hall on Thursday, April 30.

The Treme Threauxdown will feature Shorty and Orleans Avenue with special guests Allen Toussaint, Ivan Neville and New Breed Brass Band. Shorty Fest will be a fundraiser for the Trombone Shorty Foundation with music on three stages by Shorty, Shorty Foundation students, Corey Henry & Treme Funktet, New Breed Brass Band, Tank & The Bangas, TYSSON, Sweet Crude, MainLine, and this year’s honoree Big Chief Monk Boudreaux. He will perform with four generations of Mardi Gras Indians and a band that will include Grateful Dead drummer Bill Kreutzmann and the N. Mississippi Allstars’ Luther Dickinson. 

In addition, Shorty will unveil a children’s book that tells his story, Trombone Shorty.The book went on sale Tuesday, and it is illustrated by three-time Caldecott Honor Award winner Bryan Collier. Signed copies will be available Part of the proceeds from sales will go to the Trombone Shorty Foundation.
