The Virginia-based rock band plays The Joy Theater in support of their new “Myself in the Way” and we have tickets to give away to the show.

On Saturday, Turnover plays the Joy Theater and we’re giving away a pair of tickets to the show. Register here for a chance to win.

It has been a long journey from the Virginia-based rock band from the emo churn of 2011’s Turnover to 2017’s organically lo-fi Good Nature to the danceable Tame Impala-ish Myself in the Way, their new album. The journey seems superficially surprising, but the movement from album to album makes these changes make sense. Turnover has jumped around; it has evolved.

The newest, richer sound suits a band that has made growing up in public part of its story. “While it sounds a million miles away from their emo roots, the lyrics are suitably introspective and Austin Getz's vocals are stripped of pretense even when they're processed to the hilt,” Tim Sendra wrote at AllMusic. “Alongside the uptempo tracks, the band applies the same template to a batch of slower songs, creating a pleasant slowcore-meets-disco sound that's inviting and peacefully enveloping.”

Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show’s at 8. Tickets are on sale now.

The contest closes Friday night at 9 p.m.
